ARTIST STATEMENT
The figure, and therefore the human condition, is the theme of my work. I construct narratives using a combination of painting and drawing styles. My color choices are not necessarily naturalistic. A ghost-like transparent form may overlap a delicate linear figure and representational landscape.
I work from models and usually don't begin with a specific theme. A story reveals itself to me as I work. Most compositions contain multiple figures. I often turn the canvas between poses so that figures overlap and bisect each other at disparate angles. The interim ambiguity and confusion inspires and challenges me to form a resolution.
In The Perfect Storm the central transparent figure with his back to the viewer looks towards an elusive landscape. One may wonder if the marks and atmospheric forms behind him are his innermost thoughts, his past or just a landscape. The juxtaposition of various techniques and the use of a variety of materials helps me to express such themes as conflict and personal fulfillment through mystery and suggestion.

RESUME
I have completed over 80 commissions in public spaces, restaurants, residences and retail environments for interior designers, designers, architects and residential clients nationally. Sites include Louis of Boston and Timberland. My work is in numerous private collections.
